Philosophy Wire: Dolphins, army and the permanent inferiority of technology

p010tr1tPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-11-16]: The US Navy plans to retire its dolphins who have been taking part in mine warfare operations for decades, with robots from 2017. [source: BBC News] Technology has the unique capability of being PERMANENTLY inferior to life in every sector. We have cars, but none of them has abilities that are considered as standard for a horse – the car does not return the driver back to his home alone after he has fainted. How much idiot must someone be to think that a robot can replace intelligent self-conscious beings in such operations?
