Philosophy Wire: Twitter, censorship, France…

imagePhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-01-29]: Twitter announced that it now has in place a selective censorship technology that will allow it to filter tweets according to the limitations in each country [source: web news]. And if you think these limitations exist only for “primitive” countries think twice… Countries like Germany and France do their best to ban pro-Nazi talk for example. I am not a Nazi or pro-Nazi, but how civilized is someone who denies the right to speech to someone? And if in a specific case we have to apply censorship, why do we criticize so harshly other non-European countries which do the same? At some point we must start being honest with our selves: we are either FOR censorship because for example we do not want to see a Third World War or we are AGAINST such practices so in this case we should stop criticizing China…
