Philosophy Wire: Forgiveness, sex – Medical or Religious advice?

fallforestlgPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-09-10]: Teaching of religion are many times an object of mockery. However not for a good reason, as one might see…

For example, a research from Duke University showed that forgiving others helps in reducing blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate. [source: web news] Another research showed that not having sex before marriage leads to stronger relationships [source: web news, "Jay Teachman, 'Premarital Sex, Premarital Cohabitation, and the Risk of Subsequent Marital Dissolution Among Women', Journal of Marriage and Family 65 (2003): 444-455, p. 454" - see also here for more]

How often do we hear religion urging for forgiveness; And how often do we not mock religion for its old-fashioned advice? Maybe now that "modern" medicine tells us to do the same, we will listen?
