Philosophy Wire: Time travel and dogmatism against Gödel

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-04-25]: Discovery Channel showed a documentary about time travel, commented by Morgan Freeman. In this documentary, the theory of Gödel (Godel or Goedel in english) about the possibility of time travel was presented. Gödel found the solution to a specific version of the relativity equations and proved that in a rotating universe, we could travel back in time. The documentary continued saying that "it is proved that the universe does not rotate and, thus, Gödel's theory is wrong". However, it did not say the most important of all: By proving that time did not exist in one "type" of Universe, Gödel then proved that consequently time does not exist at all (since there is not reason for such an important element as "time" to exist in one universe and not in another)... Dogmatism unveiled... Many people are terrified with the things mathematics prove, especially if they are against what we "know" is "true" for all our lives...
