Philosophy Wire: The little boy who sacrificed himself for his brother

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-01-14]: A 13-year old boy was drowned in the Australian floods because, even though it was afraid of water and could not swim, did not accept to be rescued by authorities before his little brother was rescued first (source: CNN World Edition article). Many theories can be proposed to explain that behaviour of the little boy, but non of them will be compatible with the materialistic view which wants all humans to be animals relying on the instincts for their survival only...
