Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-06-04]:
During the last years I kept on commenting scientific news in my two Harmonia Philosophica portals. And as the years go by, I see to my surprise that most of the “news” are not news anymore. Most of the scientific announcements are things that have been told again, things that are already discussed, things that are already analyzed. Surely scientists today analyze things even more than before, but is this science? Is data gathering science? Can science have analysis as its sole purpose?
Science is about that light that fills your mind with a new idea. Science is about that excitement when you discover a completely new way to view the cosmos. Science is about that laughter or even hatred stemming from people when you announce them your new theory.
We used to know that science.
We used to worship that science.
Maybe you recognize it by its previous name.
Dwelling on the shores of Asia Minor Heracletus is sitting on the edge of a river. Waiting for us. All we have to do is plunge into the freezing water. And have faith…
