Philosophy Wire: I speak Chinese, but I do not know Chinese! What?!?

The software preserves intonation and cadence so the translated speech still sounds like the original speaker. [source: BBC News] What are you actually doing when you speak through a machine in a language you do not know? I do not know Chinese and yet I can speak Chinese. Does that make any sense?
