Philosophy Wire: Parthenogenesis, Snakes & the Irrational…

_62820648_copperheadPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-09-12]: Researches found out that snakes can reproduce by themselves without mating (in the photo one can see such a snake with her small one, to which it gave birth without having sex), in process called parthenogenesis [source: BBC News]. The same phenomenon has been previously observed in captured species - this is the first time it is observed in wild species. An animal which is programmed to reproduce sexually, reproduces asexually. Religions have talked about such phenomena. On the other hand Theory of Evolution does not talk about such phenomena. Too irrational that it tickles us…
