Philosophy Wire: Vulcan, Velikovsky and a new “old” planet…

turkler_kosmosa_ucmasPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-11-12]: A lost planet [source: web news]. The past is past. And we will never know it with our imperfect methods. From planet Vulcan, to Velikovsky* and now again to a mysterious planet which “must" have” existed somewhere… The history of science is full with “revisions” of the past…

* In his effort to investigate the truthness of the event of the Sun halting for one day into the sky (thus making the day longer), which is mentioned in the Old Testament, he concluded one logical thing: that if such a long day indeed took place, then people on the other side of the planet would experience at the same time a very long night. Well, you would be startled to discover that Velikovsky found out that indeed in the Mexican annals it is stated that the world was deprived of light and the sun did not reappear for a fourfold night. [Worlds in Collision, 1950:62] The past is past however and we will never know for sure... Will we?
