Philosophy Wire: The Norwegian killer and “madness” as a tool…

p01ePhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-11-30]: Psychiatrists assessing self-confessed Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik have concluded that he is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. They believe he was in a psychotic state both during and after the twin attacks on 22 July that led to the deaths of 77 people and injured 151 [source: BBC News]. Our sterilized society which cares more for the “system that rules society” than for its members, cannot believe that someone might WANT to kill other people. If he does, then he must be “mad”… Of course the same person was not so “mad” when he was preparing for his hits… But nothing of these things matters most than the importance of our own peace of mind… Let us tag him “crazy” to get over with…
