Philosophy Wire: Mars, water and blindness...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-08-07]: When we first saw Mars through a telescope we thought it had water, due to the channels on its surface. We then laughed on the idea and proudly declared that there is no water on Mars! Now scientists are again finding indications of water on the red planet, because of channel formations on its surface [source: BBC News]. Is observation which provides us with empirical data, or is it that our beliefs play a major role in what we "see" ?
